Reno~ what a trashy little town... but it sure was blinky. We had some crappy food at Dennys -- I thought it would be my last good meal... but it was the worst meal I'd eat all week.

danah in the HUGE, Monster SUV, without much actual room for stuff... And yes, we are going to Lake Tahoe... can't you tell?
IMG_1091.JPG
on the one lane road to the site... a whole string of RVs, and strange cargo.
IMG_1092.JPG
I see why people like this desert so much... but then its also 7am, and it is still only 70 degrees.... though in 2 minutes, it rose 2 degrees (the "Beast" had an outside thermometer)

on the road to Empire...

In the Beginning... (there's a bunch of self portraits throughout) I got my hippie Haight Ashbury sweater on, and a few butterflies.

See... strange cargo. -- here the Playa Taxi Co.

Approaching the glittering city of dust.

IMG_1100.JPG
Only One solid day of set-up and we've got alot going on. I never did get to go out again to see the city in all its Emerald City-esque glory.

Arriving at Black Rock City

poetry along side the road on the way in.... early enough to not have much of a line.

Meet the playa! Cracked earth and alkaline dust.
IMG_1104.JPG
Not dusty yet~
IMG_1105.JPG
Setting up the Parachute tents. We got there and I put to work straightaway.
IMG_1106.JPG
We had 9 or so of these things. Really quite ambitious, especially given our deadline.

Anne Marie! My guide and compatriot on this adventure. She likes Horses alot. Dusty Pony Ranch

joining two tents to create a megaplex... soon to be carpeted. heay heavy carpet... then to be de-MOOPd (matter out of place) -- which means vaccuming with our fingers... pulling up everything that could fly away.
IMG_1109.JPG
After the First day of serious dust storms... went out and got caught in it... zero visibility... you just have to stop... or else you could run into art, othr bikes, an RV... anything. Everyone predicted this to be a "weather year" but save some windy nights, it was a good year.
IMG_1110.JPG
I also document my dome-tent alot. Spandex walls, with tarp ceiling and aluminet over it all... It worked quite well... though there are some changes I'll make for next year.
IMG_1111.JPG
The way the spandex looked at night was a bit like a strange old movie... so even falling alseep was surreal.
IMG_1112.JPG
all my crap -- in the tent~

The Huge Ziplocks were the awesomest things ever,
